FLX Flexible Acoustic Barrier for ceiling
Flexible composite sheets designed for free hanging in ceiling voids
FLX Flexible Acoustic Barrier for ceilings
FLX Flexible Acoustic Barriers are multi-layered composite sheets designed for free-hanging in ceiling voids above partition lines, improving room-to-room sound separation via a common ceiling void. Their flexibility also allows them to be formed around localised obstructions such as service penetrations.
FLX Flexible Acoustic Barrier can reduce room-to-room sound transmission, improving privacy and preventing disturbance from neighbouring rooms. Tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2:2021.
FLX Flexible Acoustic Barrier is suitable for use as an acoustic barrier in ceiling voids upto 1800mm.
Siderise FLX flexible acoustic barriers for suspended ceilings are flexible composite quilts designed for free- hanging in ceiling voids above partition lines. They have been specifically developed to reduce `room to room’ sound transmission via a common ceiling void.
The product can be cut and formed around localised obstructions within the ceiling void. Being flexible and thin the quilts are ideal for remedial treatment requiring only limited disruption to an existing suspended ceiling during installation.
Siderise FLX are multi-layered composite materials. The central layer is a thin flexible bitumen fee polymeric barrier mat. The membrane barrier incorporates a laminated ‘anti-creep’ layer to prevent possible long-term elongation of the product in its normal free hanging condition. It additionally provides reinforcement to through penetrations at fixing points on each side of the membrane. To each side of the membrane there is an open cell acoustic foam insulation layer.
Siderise FLX is available as standard or with the optional feature of reinforced aluminium foil finish to one side. This facing simplifies the sealing of service penetrations as it permits the application of self-adhesive foil tapes.
As Siderise FLX contain no mineral fibre based components so are suitable in applications where mineral fibres must be avoided.
Handling
Siderise FLX are heavy, flexible barriers and care should be taken when handling to protect the product from damage and the handler from personal injury.
Weight per sheet (2000mm x 1200mm std)= 26kg per sheet
Before lifting each sheet should be rolled or folded down the length of the sheet to create a package approximately 1200mm long x 300 - 500mm width/diameter. The product can then be lifted. All standard health and safety lifting/handling techniques should be observed.
In terms of 'Reaction to Fire', the products are classified to EN 13501-1. See Table 1.

Siderise FLX barrier is quick and easy to install. The product is a flexible composite quilt, designed for free hanging; it is normally attached to the soffit and allowed to hang like a curtain.
The FLX is supplied in sheets, 2000mm x 1200mm and based on using 50mm at the head for fixing and 150mm return at the base, the maximum void height that can be accommodated is 1800mm. Please contact the SSPL technical team who will be able to provide you with guidance on voids over 1800mm.
The FLX flexible barriers do not have a tested fire resistance rating; they are supplied as an acoustic only void barrier.
We can offer twin barrier configurations that achieve exceptionally high sound transmission loss values. Our tested configuration of two layers FL10P with a 100mm air gap achieved a performance of 44 dB Rw. Please contact the SSPL technical team for assistance in selecting the type of barrier for your project.
