CBX Flexible Acoustic Barrier for ceilings

Flexible composite quilt to reduce sound transmission in ceiling voids

Flexible acoustic barrier for suspended ceilings

The CBX Flexible Acoustic Barrier is a thin, flexible acoustic quilt with a central mass barrier. The central membrane has a foil faced glass fibre insulation layer either side. It is designed to free-hang in ceiling voids above partition lines to provide a solution for improving room-to-room sound separation. It is suitable for new build and refurbishment or remedial projects.

Tested acoustic performance

CBX Flexible Acoustic Barrier can reduce room-to-room sound transmission, improving privacy and preventing disturbance from neighbouring rooms. Tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2:2021.

Range of applications

CBX Flexible Acoustic Barrier is suitable for use as an acoustic barrier in ceiling voids upto 1800mm.

Application

Siderise CBX flexible acoustic barriers for suspended ceilings are flexible composite quilts designed for free- hanging in ceiling voids above partition lines. They have been specifically developed to to reduce `room to room’ sound transmission via a common ceiling void.

Being flexible and thin the quilts are ideal for remedial treatment requiring only limited disruption to an existing suspended ceiling during installation.

As Siderise CBX are faced on both sides and the joints are normally taped, to reduce fibre migration .For critical applications the product can be made fully enclosed by pre-wrapping all edges with Siderise foil tape before final installation.

Product Description

Siderise CBX is a multi-layered composite material. The central layer is a thin, flexible bitumen fee polymeric barrier mat.The barrier incorporates a laminated ‘anti-creep’ layer. This is designed to prevent possible long-term elongation of the product in its normal free hanging condition. It additionally provides reinforcement to through penetrations at fixing points.

To each side of the mass barrier is a glass fibre insulation layer. This is faced as standard on the exposed surface with a reinforced aluminium foil.

Handling

Siderise CBX are fairly heavy barriers but very flexible and care should be taken when handling to protect the product from damage and the handler from personal injury.
Weight per sheet (2000mm x 1200mm std)= 26kg per sheet
Before lifting each sheet should be rolled or folded down the length of the sheet to create a package approximately 1200mm long x 300 - 500mm width/diameter. The product can then be lifted. All standard health and safety lifting/handling techniques should be observed.

Fire Performance

In terms of 'Reaction to Fire', the products are classified to EN 13501-1. See Table 1.

FAQs

Get quick answers to common queries or contact our team for more advice. Your questions answered.

Is the CBX easy to fit?

Siderise CBX barrier is quick and easy to install. The product is a flexible composite quilt, designed for free hanging; it is normally attached to the soffit and allowed to hang like a curtain. Please view the CBX Fitting Guidance for detailed information on installation.

What is the biggest void that can be accommodated?

The CBX is supplied in sheets, 2000mm x 1200mm and based on using 50mm at the head for fixing and 150mm return at the base, the maximum void height that can be accommodated is 1800mm. Please contact the SSPL technical team who will be able to provide you with guidance on voids over 1800mm.

Does the CBX have a tested fire rating?

The CBX flexible barriers do not have a tested fire resistance rating; they are supplied as an acoustic only void barrier. They do have tested Reaction to Fire classification B-s1-d0.

Can I use two barriers together?

We can offer twin barrier configurations that achieve exceptionally high sound transmission loss values. Our tested configuration of CVB/80/P10/100R + CB10P with a 100mm air gap achieved a performance of 49 dB Rw. Please contact the SSPL technical team for assistance in selecting the type of barrier for your project.
