Enrogen, a UK-based manufacturer of standby and prime power generators, required a reliable acoustic solution for a new generator product line and high acoustic performance was critical for compliance and end-user satisfaction.

Enrogen’s generators are intended for use in sensitive environments such as hospitals, data centres, and commercial buildings, therefore it was vital that they meet stringent noise level requirements, whilst maintaining their compact design and thermal efficiency — this is where Siderise could help.

Siderise solution

Enrogen supplied Siderise’s acoustic specialists with the sound power level octave band data, which enabled them to model the noise emission across the audible spectrum. The problem frequencies were identified from the model, and a composite solution that was optimised for the application was subsequently developed.

The outcome was a revised composite formulation that addressed both the technical acoustic challenges and the operational demands of generator manufacture. This featured a multilayer construction combining a high-density mass-loaded barrier with open-cell acoustic foam, a durable, oil-resistant facing to withstand the harsh internal generator environment, and a self-adhesive backing for quick and secure installation. Together, these measures achieved a 23 dB(A) reduction in overall sound pressure levels.

This bespoke composite solution has now been adopted by Enrogen for use in applications where high acoustic performance is required. James A. R. Brown, Director at Enrogen, commented:
