SIDERISE, global leader in the development, design and manufacturer of fire, acoustic and thermal solutions, has announced that it has achieved ISO 14001:2015, the globally recognised environmental management system

SIDERISE, global leader in the development, design and manufacturer of fire, acoustic and thermal solutions, has announced that it has achieved ISO 14001:2015, the globally recognised environmental management system.

The announcement follows a series of audits, conducted by Exova BM TRADA, the certification division of the Exova Group. An independent, accredited certification body, Exova is one of the world’s leading laboratory-based testing groups, trusted by organisations to test and advise on the safety, quality and performance of their products and operations. The company, who operates 138 laboratories and offices in 33 countries, provides UKAS accredited certification to all major management systems standards as well as chain of custody and sustainable supply chain, product and service certification and CE marking.

The international environmental management standard ISO 14001:2015 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system. It is awarded to companies that document and regularly review their systems and products with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of their processes on the environment through the process of risk management.

The construction industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental impact. Recent research* claims the construction sector contributes to 23% of air pollution, 50% of the climatic change, 40% of drinking water pollution and 50% of landfill wastes. It is therefore imperative that more is done by manufacturers and contractors to minimise the sectors impact. By achieving ISO 140001:2015, SIDERISE has been recognised as an environmentally responsible manufacturer.

The approval covers the design and manufacture of SIDERISE products at its Head Office in Maesteg, for use in fire compartmentation, noise control and thermal insulation. As part of the assessment process SIDERISE reviewed its business processes and over the past 6 months has seen an improvement of over 40% in terms of waste recycling. In addition, the company has made a conscious decision to source its electricity from renewable sources.

“Achieving ISO 14001:2015 is a reflection of the importance that SIDERISE puts on its environmental impact as both a business and an employer,” commented Tony James, SIDERISE Group Chief Executive Officer. “It’s essential that our employees as well as external stakeholders such as customers and partners, recognise that SIDERISE is a responsible company. Measuring and improving our environmental impact through the achievements of ISO 140001:2015 is a key part of this.”

As industry leaders, SIDERISE places great emphasis on meeting current compliance obligations, regulatory requirements and defining industry performance standards. Products are subject to regular independent performance testing and the company collaborates with many of the leading manufacturers to undertake system tests to ensure conformity.
